BREE HANAFINBree Hanafin, a native of Arlington, VA, had an illustrious softball career and has years of experience instructing and coaching girls of all ages and skill levels.
After signing her National Letter of Intent to play for Baylor University, Hanafin headed to Waco, TX in 2008 following their first World Series appearance and top 10 ranking. During her freshman season, Bree was the starting shortstop as she led the team in doubles (12) and RBIs (32) while finishing second in home runs (7). In 2009, the Bears won their hosted NCAA Regional before advancing to the ESPN nationally televised Super Regionals in Ann Arbor, MI. The freshman was the only Baylor player to record hits in both games during the series and knocked in 1 of the 2 team RBIs. During her sophomore year, Bree moved from shortstop to become the starting first basement for the 2010 season. In 2010, Hanafin transferred and played the last 2 years of her college eligibility at the University of Maryland. The Terps hosted the NCAA Regionals in College Park, MD in 2011 and again qualified for the NCAA Regionals in 2012 which they attended in Seattle, WA. |
As a 2-year starter at first base, Hanafin gained All-ACC Second Team and NFCA All-Region Second Team honors her first season while leading the team in RBIs (35), homeruns (8), total bases (100), slugging percentage (.565), and walks (18). Her senior season in 2012 was cut short due to injury. Hanafin is still in the Maryland record books for various hitting categories; 4th in career batting average (.323), 9th in hits in a single season (62), 12th in season batting average (.350), 14th for homeruns in a single season (8), 18th in RBIs in a single season (35), 20th in runs scored in a single season (36), 9th in sac flies in a single season (3).
Growing up in Arlington, Hanafin played in the recreation Arlington Girls Softball Association before becoming a 4-year varsity starter and 3-time MVP shortstop for Yorktown High School from 2004-2008. During her high school career she earned All-District, All-Region, All-State, and Washington Post All-Met honors with the 3-time District Champion Patriots. After stints with the Arlington Sage and Fairfax Firebirds, she ultimately played for the 18U Shamrocks Gold team coached by ASA Hall of Famer Tommy Orndorff from 2007-2009, when they finished 5th for two years in a row at ASA Gold Nationals.
Hanafin has coached with numerous travel teams in the Northern Virginia region since 2008 as well as serving as Associate Head Varsity Coach at Marshall High School in 2012 and has been instructing players since 2008. Her methods are focused around the basic mechanics and fundamentals of the game, and she enjoys developing players to grow into their full potential by enhancing their natural abilities.
Hanafin now lives in Loudoun County with her husband and their two cats, Butter and Biscuit, and goldendoodle, Bordeaux. She works full-time for Accenture and also serves on the board of directors for the DC Grays.
